Skills Online Modules
Train Me helps trainees develop a basic understanding of the tourism, hospitality and retail sectors using Service IQ short course modules from the Skills Online suite. The Skills Online modules provide a high standard of introductory knowledge at a level consistent with training at the Glowworm Caves. Skills Online modules do not have NCEA level credits, but trainees receive a Service IQ certificate at the completion of each module.
The three modules covered are;
- Introduction to Visitor Experience
- Introduction to Customer Service Skills
- Resolving Customer Complaints Effectively
Work Experience Placement & Specific Training
An important component of the programme is work experience placements. THL supports this initiative by giving placements to trainees at the Caves. Trainees undergo an induction session and while onsite are expected to conduct themselves as though they were employees of THL. The coordinator is responsible for scheduling work experience with the trainee and THL staff.
To add to a trainee’s employability, trainees undergo specific training such as barista courses, cash handling using tills and Eftpos systems and data entry.
The areas of ‘on the job’ training includes food and beverage, retail, reservations and guiding. Trainees choose which area they would like to work in however, they must be 17 to undertake a guiding role.
Work Experience Options
Students are required to complete 5 full-day work experience sessions at the Caves. There are a number of options available to undertake the work experience that can be discussed at the interview.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then all we need is your motivation and commitment to give your very best to this programme.
The cost of the programme is $45 which is for the Service IQ Online Skills Modules.
